Fixing dead links. | 16/JAN/2024

Going to be rolling out a few updates to the directory in the coming days. Several downed links will be replaced with fresh ones, so if you have any suggestions for things you want to see on the site? Now's the time to email me about it! I'm hoping to have all of the dead links pruned and replaced by the end of next week, so expect to see the site update a few times if you follow the site on the social/feed-side of Neocities.

UPDATE AS OF 01/FEB: Sorry for delays fixing links - Got incredibly sick late last week and nearly had to go to hospital. FUN! I'll be getting back on with this soon.

New update! | 22/APR/2023

Wanted to put out a quick news-post to let you all know I am back on track and very slowly starting to replace the dead links on each page of the directory - Until that's sorted out, I will not be adding more pages, but new websites will randomly start appearing in the place of old dead ones as I shift them to the "obituaries" page of the site (there are 18 that have been added to page 1 today, can you find them all among the old links?)

Huge thanks to Cabbagesorter for her efforts in letting me know about every single dead link she came across on page 1 of the site, massively appreciate your help in both replacing them and reaching out in general - Really gave me the kick up the ass I needed to get back on track and sort out the piles of dead links scattered across the site.

I also want to take this as an opportunity to thank those of you who have reached out to me asking if they can help with the site in some way, and honestly? The best thing you can do is email me when you come across a dead link, and (if possible) suggest one or two things I could potentially replace it with. I'm just one dude, and the site currently has over 1,070 sites that I have manually sorted through myself, and honestly? I'm a little overwhelmed in terms of what to replace them with without comprimising the quality of what I choose to put on the site. Whether it's new, old, or somewhere in between? If it's interesting, and you think it's cool send me it and I'll consider putting it on the list!

Thanks as always for the support,

Back on track (almost) | 08/JAN/2023

Just a quick one to say thank you to all of you for your feedback and well-wishes the last month or so and to provide a quick update on where I'm at.

1) Peelopaalu will be (more or less) staying as it is on Neocities at the moment, and an alternate deep-web/hidden services version of the site is not going to be something in the sites future. The idea wasn't very popular to start with, and maintaining such a thing is going to prove to be such a headache that quite frankly, I can't be assed with it. TL;DR: For people who are fans of the sites current form? Good news!

2) The directory is not going to be wiped/reset - All links will remain and I will continue the project as I left it. The obituaries will also continue to be maintained as they are at the moment. If you notice downed links? EMAIL ME. I rely on visitors to report downed websites to me, as I do not run a script to check up status on websites.

3) I had an odd amount of people email me about the stickers I have available on the Support the Site page. I currently have (I think?) 2 stickers left.. Somewhere. I didn't initially have plans to do another run of them, but if enough people get behind it and want to see it happen? Sure, I'm open to doing it again.

4) I will be making an effort in the new year to stream link-hunting sessions, internet nostalgia sessions, and other similar stuff on Twitch to show you guys exactly how my process for updating the site works, and just to interact with you all a little bit more.

Once again, thank you all for the invaluable feedback and kind words in your emails. Hopefully 2023 brings us some interesting stuff to check out!

Bet you weren't expecting this | 25/NOV/2022

Ok, so here's the gist of what this blogpost/newspost is about: I am heavily considering starting my work on Peelopaalu again. Earlier this year I decided to take a bit of a break from updating the website, but after a lot of consideration, I'm now thinking of maybe getting back on the horse and giving it a go again. I'm in a much clearer headspace as of now, and this last week I have thought a bit about maybe doing something with Peelopaalu sometime in the first half of 2023. What this something is though? I don't know yet. Maybe I'll randomly just start updating again as I used to, maybe I'll change something up, I honestly have absolutely no clue right now.

Now I've put this out there, I have a few things I absolutely need to get some feeback on before I go any further with this. If you could email me, Tweet at me, PM me on Newgrounds, or just get in touch somehow, I'd really appreciate it if I could get some thoughts on the following:

1) Should I keep the project limited to being indefinitely hosted on Neocities, or should I expand beyond this to allow for more features (search function, tagging, etc?) This would potentially come with costs, so I'd need to find a way to make this worth my while if I go down this route.

2) Should I bring back Peelopaalu in its current form at all, or should I reset the directory/collection to 0 and start building links again from the ground up? Why would I even consider this, you may ask? To ensure quality over quantity, prune mass-amounts of dead links, and clean the directory up.

3) Should I cull the obituaries page? Why? It takes time to update it, check for an link, and it generally slows down updates by quite a lot. Pruning dead links and replacing them with new ones without commemorating the old (and dead) ones keeps updates coming without delays. This comes at the cost of the directory randomly gaining/losing links at random spots on the list. I am also considering removing the obituaries page in favour of leaving dead links on the main directory and just highlighting them in red to signify them being dead. What do you think of this?

4) Would anybody be interested in me abandoning legacy Peelopaalu in favour of a deep-web/dark-web/onion-links version of the site? It would still be hosted on the clearnet, and would link to a mix of SFW and NSFW content, but everything I link to would be 110% legal and not morally reprehensible (so yeah, no linking to the obvious sickfuck shit people associate with that part of the internet, of course)

5) None of the above? If nothing here does it for you, what's your idea? I'm open to discussing this with you via email or whatever. Just drop me a line. I'd love to hear what you want to see from me and Peelopaalu as a site in the future!

Thanks for checking this blogpost thing out, and thank you very much for continuing to follow my spaces online. This blogpost was originally written for my personal website ( but will be (or maybe already has) been posted both there and on Peelopaalu ( in hopes of reaching a wider pool of people.

I hope to hear from you soon!

The End | (22/03/2022)

Decided it's about time I actually wrote this update and stopped putting it off. Peelopaalu is going to be going on hiatus for the foreseeable future, and I do not know if or when I will start to update it again. I've had a lot of fun working on this project these last two and a half years and I've gotten to meet some pretty cool people thanks to it, but all projects must come to an end sooner or later. I want to use this news post as a way to sorta' tie up loose ends, answer some questions I think people may have, and offer a method for people to get in touch should they want to ask anything else.

Why now?

There are numerous reasons, but the short and narrow is that I:

A) Don't have enough spare time.

B) Lack the energy/drive/whatever in what spare time I do have.

C) My life has changed dramatically since I started Peelopaalu.

Back in 2019 when I threw this thing together at my family's kitchen table while eating Chinese food and drinking slightly too much one night, I just got back to the UK from Australia with my now wife, didn't have a job, hadn't really figured out what I wanted to do with myself at the time, and had a shit load of spare time to throw at a project like this. Hell, originally, I didn't even plan to put it online until a friend heavily encouraged me to do so. These days, I'm married, have my own place, work constantly, have other projects that are neglected in favour of this one, and I just generally lack the drive to keep this thing going in my spare time for any longer - I simply have other things I'd rather do with my limited spare time. I've been thinking about this for over 6 months now, and the time has just come I guess. I've moved on.

What will happen to the site?

The site will cease to update starting today (this means the directory and obituaries will not be updated), but it will remain online until Neocities either dies or removes it themselves. I have no plans to take the site down myself.

Can I take over the site/project?

No, but I am happy to offer a direct rip of the site for people to use for static mirrors/link mining. Email me if you would like a copy along with where you plan to host it.

Will you ever start updating the site again?

Maybe one day when I have more time and feel like the time is right, but it definitely won't be for quite a while.

Do you have any other projects?

Yes, I currently run a sticker shop with my wife. Other than that? I have nothing ongoing right now, but I do have plans to maybe make a start on something this summer with a close friend of mine (same dude who helped make Peelopaalu what it is today). Maybe I'll put my dead Tumblr blog to use to catalogue development on that or something? I dunno.

So. That's it.. I think. Peelopaalu has been a really cool experience and I cannot stress enough how much fun I've had on this project since I first started it. Everything from chatting to random people who emailed me to share sites or just to say hi, chatting to Anons on 4chan about it, working with my close friends on it, it's generally all been a really positive experience from start to finish.

Some people I really want to extend my thanks to are these cool d00dz:

Kofe (Formerly: RSA)

Cool Sites Thread Anons (yes, all of you)

Everyone who took time out of their day to email me about the site in any form over the years.

Whether you emailed me to submit/report links frequently, wrote code for the site, or just generally offered support for the project in some way, each of you are listed here for a reason. Thank you all so much for being a part of what made Peelopaalu great, and I hope you'll check out other things I fart onto the internet in future.

Take it easy,

Experimental SpaceHey Group Created | (18/12/2021)

So here’s a thing. Techquickie (Linus Tech Tips) recently made a video on one of the websites listed on the directory: SpaceHey, specifically. Given that this video is likely to cause a mass-influx of traffic to SpaceHey, I figured that now may be a good time to point out that I made a group for Peelopaalu on there a while ago when testing out some of SpaceHey’s feature’s and completely forgot about it for like 2 months.

I’m not much of a fan of socialmedia sites, but I am interested in how something like a forum/bulletin board/something could benefit Peelopaalu in some way. Streamlining making link-submissions for people who don’t have a Neocities account, or don’t want to email me directly easier is something I have been wanting to work on for a long time, but given the limitations of how Neocities works, I am going to have to rely on some sort of external service for this one way or another, whether it’s email, whether it’s a forum, or something else entirely.

So, to close up! If you’re already on SpaceHey and want to check out this little experimental group thing I’m messing with, feel free to join and let me know how you’d like to see the group used (if at all), or if you have another (probably better) idea than this, again, feel free to email me and let me know about it.

Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year in advance,

December Update! | (02/12/2021)

Latest update has been added to the directory - 20 new websites, which I get is a lot smaller than most of my updates, but I've had a busy last few months and just haven't had as much spare time to work on the site. Hopefully you guys enjoy what I've added anyways!

Oh yeah, I also just rolled out the Xmas theme for the year, hope you like that too!

If the theme looks wonky or the new links aren't showing for you, please remember to CTRL+F5 to see changes take effect. Cheers :-)

Merry Xmas and have a happy new year!
